What's wrong with my Pokemon Diamond?

A few months ago, I bought a brand new Pokemon Diamond from GameStop. I lost it and just recently found it. I started a new game (I only had a Chimchar don't worry) and everytime I save in a different location and turn off and turn it back on, I end up in the same spot I was last time! I tried again on another new game and saved at the route near Lake Verity. Then when I turned it back on I was back at my characters house! It's NOT hacked I swear.
